Besides Vance I really enjoy reading Robert Heinlein and Larry Niven. Try 'Glory road' or 'Orphans of the sky' by Heinlein or 'Inferno' or 'The integral trees' by Niven. All four books are great and I have often re-read them.
But the plots contain some things also found in Vance's work: the young man searching for his place in the world, sometimes looking for revenge.
Anybody agrees/disagrees ?
