Apologies offered ... I'd read Dom's note too quickly, missing the SF qualification and assumed (possibly due to the "Bad Ronald" reference) that it was an "author" observation rather than an "SF author". On reading your quite correct comments I thought I'd offer Steve Barnes & Octavia Butler and then saw that someone else floated their names.
The entire subject causes me to shake my head. I've never gone out of my way to learn whether an author is black, white or any other color ... I only know whether I enjoy reading the product or not.
Possibly the demographics of authors correlates positively with readers, in that if you don't spend much time reading it's unlikely that you'll consider writing. While not zero, there aren't very many Eskimo, Amerind or Aborigine authors, are there?
