I wrote this somewhere else but since you're asking I can think of the midshipman who was reading Kant in "Vandals of the Void"
and the (at that time termed)Negro couple in Bad Roanald who
were stressed as perfectly decent and Ronald's racist anger was
ugly and frightening. I can appreciate peoples sensitivities but
when we start worrying about author's being politically "alright" or "sensitive" I start worrying about two things--being arrested in my garret and hauled away---and
having Conrad's "Nigger of the Narcissus", Marlowe's "Jew of Malta" etc. being expunged from libraries.
