Lets be honest any attempt by Hollywood to render a Jack Vance novel into a film would most likely be a joke. The ornate and sometimes archaiac language would be **pffft** gone before you can say "butchery". The story would be homogenised into traditional lowest common denominator narrative. The social commentary and the fascinating cultural anthropology would be ignored - it might not be "accessable" ("Accessable" in this context usually means "intelligble to a potato"). The only thing that wouldn't be that different would be his heroes. Now, I love Vance's work, but his protaganists are often unidimensional pragmatists, and they are very interchangeable. Of course noble exceptions exist in the persona of my favourite character,Cugel. But I digress, basically I doubt that Hollywood would do it right. Of course the Brits are capable of producing subtle films - maybe there the way to go.
