It's very interesting you should say that. I have actually suggested it to Mr. Gilliam himself, some six years ago when he was our guest at the Swedish Cinematheque where I work. It was during our preview of his "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" that I had this epiphany. At the subsequent cocktail party I approached him after most of the paparazzi had left and asked him if he had ever read Vance. The answer was negative and he had never even heard of him. But, as he said, "maybe I should read him, because my middle name is Vance." My only regret is that I did not at that juncture carry a copy of one of the Cugel books to present him with. If I had, the world might have been a different place.

As an aside, Mr. Gilliam is American, not British. He has worked a lot in Britain, however.
