I'm all in favor of sending some books by JV to Terry Gilliam. Other directors I came up with are Ridley Scott and David Lynch, although I fear they would both put a rather dark feel in Vance's work. Dutch directors (working in Hollywood) which come to mind, of course, are Paul Verhoeven (currently filming Heinlein's 'Starship Troopers') and Jan de Bont (doing 'Speed 2? or was it Twister 2?!). Scott, Lynch and Verhoeven have all adapted SF stuff before (Blade Runner, Dune and Total Recall & ST respectively).
Ever since I first read the Demon Princes novels (as a child in the late seventies) I've been fantasizing about someone making a film out of them. Same with Emphyrio and the Tschai novels. 'Dragon Masters', 'Last Castle' and 'Blue World' would also make fascinating visual spectacles. 'Araminta Station' and the other Cadwal novels even more so, but the required budget would make Costner's Waterworld look like peanuts...
Why not send Mr. Gilliam a copy of Last Castle, Blue World and Dragon Masters too?
