Yes, you're quite right. On the subject of Gersen, I found Alusz Iphigenia to be archetypical of what you're saying...quite unattainable to the common ruck but Gersen pursues her with doggedness. Jerdian Chanseth is another example...I actually felt quite depressed at the conclusion of The Face...Jerdian seemed to be a touch more animated than the usual "looking demurely over their shoulder" Vance girl...I wonder if Vance has modelled women like Ylin Ylan, Jerdian or even Suldrun on some haughty schoolgirl he may have had a fancy to?
