The comment I made does not detract one iota from my enjoyment of Vance's books. Women appear to be alien to Vance - just like the opposite sex is alien to most of us I guess - and this reflects in his books. It's not that his women should be Kirth Gersen's or anything it is that they are so incredibly alien! I very much recognise the sentiment - like any ex-adolescent - and until it was pointed out to me it never occurred to me it could bother anyone. : As I said, my wife does - now - appreciate Vance very much and has seen through his own - apparent - inability to deal with women characters : Trusty : : : On the other hand I also love Sheri Teppers books, which were : : along with Suzy McKee Charnas (Motherlines etc.) truly eye opening education on being female.
