I think the perfect artist to illustrate Vance is the French artist Jean Giraud ("Moebius"). He was one of the production artists for the "Fifth Element", but of course his work goes way back through "Heavy Metal Magazine" to the original French magazine "Metal Hurlant".
Giraud is clearly a Vance lover: I remember a black and white drawing by him (can't remember where), in which a man in Vancean garb waited in some kind of medieval/futuristic train station with a book sitting beside him marked "Tschai - J.V."
Giraud would be my first choice as designer for the Demon Princes movie series! Check out the covers of the French "J'ai Lu" Tschai editions on Remy's website for work in a similar vein. Great stuff which puts the American cheese on Tor's covers to shame.
