: I've a small question on Emphyrio which has bothered me now long enough.
: I've read a Dutch translation of Emphyrio. In the translation a planet called 'Maastricht' is mentioned. As Maastricht is a Dutch city I wonder if the planet is called the same in the english version or that the planet's name is given a Dutch name by the translator.

: thanks in advance,
: Bas

I read both the Dutch and the English (DAW) edition of Emphyrio. I remember quite well also being surprised by the name Maastricht in that book. As far as I know, the Meulenhoff translators only rarely changed names. Some examples that come to mind are ´Fraaibergen´ for Mount Pleasant, ´Voorzienigheid´ for Providence, and ´de Zelfkant´ for Beyond (all in the Demon Princes novels), as well as the names ´Jan Smid´ for Joe Smith (Son of the Tree) and ´Paravos´ for Palafox (Languages of Pao). I´m sure there are more examples, no doubt from translations into other languages, too. (I´d be interested in knowing the Spanish, French and German translations for the examples given here. If anyone could provide them: thanks!)

Henri
