I was the person who sold the copy you are talking about, and I was very appreciative of the bid :) I was, however, very surprised that it went that high (although Jerry Hewett told me it would probably go over $200).
I have gotten a lot of requests from Vance fans who are trying to find a copy of this book, particularly from outside the US, and I don't see it offered for sale very often. I know that it is scarce, but I haven't a clue as to why. The print run wasn't any smaller than usual for U/M offerings.
If anybody else has any speculation for why it's so scarce, I would be interested in hearing it.
BTW - Nick, eBay is one of the larger on-line auction operations, and I've found, to my wife's dismay, that it is also a very good way to get rid of a lot of otherwise useless cash :)
