Rich typed : "You're right. You don't want to start waking your favourite author up during the middle of the night just for a friendly chat, as it were."

Actually, I went to all the trouble of timing it exactly after he'd finished his lunch. ("The way to a man's heart is through his ... etc.") It was 10am here in NZ and about 2pm the previous day in California.

Rich... "Chuckle. It would probably slow down your typing. Drooling is also a useful word in these circumstances."

** Is it? ** When I was pregnant, I vomited into my keyboard. The look on the repairman's face when he came to clean it was priceless. I told him I'd spilt some soup. (heh heh)

Rich: "However, as Willem mentioned, feminine charm is usually enough to have such drawbacks overlooked"

Unfortunately the conversation wasn't long enough to exert anything.

Rich... "You wouldn't need to (use US spelling). Interestingly, Jack's grammar seems to be mainly British English and, furthermore, seems to favour English idiosyncrasies. He'd probably keep correcting YOU for changing his spelling of *arse* to *ass.*"

Has anyone ever seen the words arse or ass in a JV book? But seriously, you're right. I was just blowing my own spelling trumpet.

Rich: "At Jack's age ... and speed of writing and the lengths he goes to to tell the story, you get the impression that the story is the important thing. The money is nice but it can in now way cover the effort that he puts in. Besides, if he stops he'll have no need for a typist. You'd have to be a scullion or somesuch."

A SCULLION!... I suppose I'd consider being a Somesuch. Acutally, what I'd really want to do at his house (besides meet the guy obviously), is to closet myself up with all the copies of his older books (supposing he has them), because I can't stand the thought that they exist, and that I can't obtain them (due to geographical and financial reasons). I've got a collection of about 30 but there's lots more. I know all that happiness is out there, and I can't get at it. **Frustration** I don't particularly want to build a collection because it's valuable - I just want to read the texts. To me they are like Douglas Adams books (although DA is no great literary talent) - real humorous and extremely enjoyable. The fact that Jack can weave words like a Blue Tit builds his nest, is just a very happy coincidence.

Rich: "However, I don't think that you'd have to remember as many dogs names as Wayness!"

What the hell are you talking about now ? !.
**N.O.I** Donna
