: Willem typed: "If Donna had information otherwise : let us know please."
: I have told all I'm afraid. I asked, "I'm looking forward to Lurulu, how is it going?" The reply, "With glacial slowness." Communication - with time delays as they were - may have been confusing.
You're right. You don't want to start waking your favourite author up during the middle of the night just for a friendly chat, as it were.
: Willem typed: "btw: a very sharp plan : using a bit of feminine charm is something most of us could not use to draw an ARC into our possesion. What I see from your email address is that you would have to fly quite a distance before you get to Jack Vance."
: Rich typed: "Wouldn't you if you could?"
: Willem... "Seriously: suppose he would have accepted your offer, would you go?"
: Rich... "If you could afford it, why not."
: I'm sure Mr Vance does not want some twitching girl slobbering over his voice recognition. However, if the call
Chuckle. It would probably slow down your typing. Drooling is also a useful word in these circumstances. However, as Willem mentioned, feminine charm is usually enough to have such... drawbacks overlooked.
:came, I would drop everything. After all, how many chances does one get to experience complete bliss? Even if I had to hold my breath for fear of distracting the Master of Manuscript - I would sit, quietly turning the color of chatowsies - and grinning all the way.
He'd probably think you were mad, what with the slobbering, holding your breath and changing colour. However, most of us would go green with envy.
: You bet I'd go! But the real purpose for me would not be the "ARC Race", but the sheer honor of being useful to someone I admire so much.
: I can definitely type faster than he can talk:
: *And I can spell in American.* (heh heh) **Donna**
You wouldn't need to. Interestingly, Jack's grammar seems to be mainly British English and, furthermore, seems to favour English idiosyncrasies. He'd probably keep correcting YOU for changing his spelling of *arse* to *ass.*
: Postscript: You'll all be horrified, I know, but I am reluctantly hoping he can afford to give up the scramble for SVUs, and maybe take it easy now.
At Jack's age (and also the other Jack - Jack Williamson whom Tor also publish) and speed of writing and the lengths he goes to to tell the story, you get the impression that the story is the important thing. The money is nice but it can in now way
cover the effort that he puts in.
Besides, if he stops he'll have no need for a typist. You'd have to be a scullion or somesuch. However, I don't think that you'd have to remember as many dogs names as Wayness!
Rich.
