Saxon is a good choice; how about the fellow from LA Confidential Russell, Crowe, as Reith?

Robin Williams as Howard Alan Treesong? (Shoot me.)
Aillas is tough to cast ... restrained, intelligent, capable. Would anyone be offended by Leonardo di Caprio? I like Keith Carradine as a type, but he is a bit old for the part.
Gwyneth Paltrow is a good choice for Suldrun.
Brian Blessed as Casmir? (He's mostly a stage actor, but he's been in some films.)
A young Telly Savalas as Lens Larque?
