I thought I had posted my remarks on the subject on this website, but I cannot find them. Anyway, I happened to find it (trade paper) whilst in Canada in 1994, and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that I requested info on obtaining the hardcover on a newsgroup, and Matt himself answered. I've been corresponding with him since then. He now has a mystery paperback out (only in Canada) that's quite good; very different, and very "Canadian."
As for FOOLS ERRANT, only 750 copies of the hardcover were printed (same as Sean Stewart's NOBODY'S SON); they were for libraries only (and subsidized by the gov't, and thus inexpensive.) I had a bookstore in Canada order me some from the publisher (and have them signed.) The bookstore may still have copies: it is White Dwarf Books at "http://www.iceonline.com/home/whidwarf/webpage.html". You can also try emailing Matt directly; he's a nice guy. Tell him I "sent" you. If all else fails, I can lend you a copy to read.
