Sorry to readers of this board (and both Andromedas) about the wrong Andromeda. I should have read the small print that said the site was Seattle USA and not Birmingham UK. When I was in Andromeda last Saturday (15 Feb) Roger Peyton said they had a website, so when I found Andromeda ... .

Re. Other goodies at Andromeda:

There were two limited edition copies of "Five Gold Bands". But I didn't like that story so they are still there as of 1530 Saturday.

There was one TOR "Nightlamp" and one TOR "Araminta Station".

I think there were a couple more of the Ellery Queen stories: "A Room to Die In" and "Madman Theory".

There were also the UK paperback editions that you'd expect in any UK Bookshop; The Throy books, Lyonesse books .. etc.

I think I saw some US paperbacks in the 2nd hand shelves; City of the Chasch (DAW?) was there certainly.

Re. the recommended author:

I write these board messages in my office first thing in the morning, so I don't have the book to hand. I'll check the author's name tonight and leave a message tomorrow.

Thanks for the Edmund Cooper tip. Now that you mention it "The Overman Culture" by Cooper does have some echoes of Vance; I'll check out his other books.

Mike
