The prices started to soar at the same time two things happened; Ebay started, and this web site started. It could just be a coincidence.
I'm not convinced the prices are absurd, or at least any worse than for any other SF books. I'm seeing *book club* editions of some books go for up to $200 on Ebay. And TAKE MY FACE is remarkably rare, much more so than the much more recent SNOW CRASH, which is fetching up to $1000. I'm afraid the time has passed when you could get SN/DO or BI/TMF for under $100.
