Yeah, I just checked ebay again and was coming over here to confess being wrong about some fool buying _VotV_ for $300. I suppose this might be a face saving, shill offer, but may be genuine. Can't see why this "lao" who bought it didn't see all the other ABE offers at lower prices.
The only thing I see that ebay has going for it (IMO) is pictures, which for a collector are important given that one person's VG++ is another's poor.
I recently bought a copy of the Detective Book Club edition of _The Man in the Cage_ which was *supposed* to be NF.
I believe near-fine means a book that basically looks like it did when published but has excedingly small defects. The main defect this one had was a piece missing from the spine about the size of one's little fingernail. Not my idea of NF, and a picture would have shown a truer actual condition.
That said, there are good buys on ebay in Vance material, but it's catch as catch can and if you come up against a determined bidder, there are only higher prices.
