I have a copy of the Last Castle in Russian, i cant write the title obvioulsy but it sounds like:

porst-lyehdny Hradt (castle)

the translation works fine, but I suspect Vance is easy to translate because his style is so simple. He does not rely on colloquial English but on the so called re-ceived english of nineteenth century Britain.
