: I think Alan Rickman or David Warner would make eminently suitable King Casmirs.
: Suldren could be played by Kate Blanchett.
: I'm having trouble thinking of suitable actors for the other major parts (Shimrod, Aillas, Glyneth, Father Umphred, Faude Carphiliot, Melancthe), though several amusing and improbable casting decisions do spring to mind - imagine Leonardo Di Caprio as Aillas! Actually it's best not to. It could happen!

: Still, it's fun to dream that they could get an SF/Fantasy adaptation right at least once! Perhaps I'm too cynical ;-)

One of the purposes of art is to inspire art; although motion pictures as an artform is a dubious proposition, I'd at least be willing (if not anxious) to see one made. The Wizard of Oz deviates from the book significantly, and proved immeasurably popular; Dune, despite a stylich director and a budget exceeding the GNP of Cadwal annoyed fans and newbies alike. I plead for tolerance, and prefer not to pan a movie not yet made.

: Anyone else have any ideas?

A few! The best Suldrun I've heard is Gwyneth Paltrow. The best Casimir I've heard of is William Hurt; Casmir was somewhat younger than David Warner. Nick Nolte? Probably too tough.

I'm thinking Ralph Fiennes as Faude Carfhiliot, and Jeff Daniels or a Kevin Kline type as Shimrod; Shimnrod doesn't really know how amusing he is. Russel Crowe as Torqual? Kiefer Sutherland as Sir Cory? Glenn Close as Sollace? Sean Connery as King Throbius? Jeremy Irons as Tamurello?

Father Umphred is a difficult and terrifying role; his 'music' is as dark as Visbhumes, but is somewhat modified by decorum. I don't have a good suggestion, but a performance like Jim Carrey's as the Riddler would please me. Brian Blessed?

The perfect Visbhume would have been Ron Moody (he played Fagin in the movie verion of Oliver!) I don't know who could do it now. Christopher Walken?

What a cast of villains this trilogy has. This thread has certainly informed my opinion of the characters; sometimes I can agree, sometimes not, but its always interesting.
