Firstly, I think I read somewhere that Jack said he didn’t approve of all the quick-fix entertainment we have these days (like movies, computer games, TV etc), something along the lines of; it replaces intelligent past times such as reading and playing music. So I’m not sure Jack would want to see his work on film (unless he wants the money of course). Also, I think the charm of his story-telling would be lost on screen, and it may disappoint him - and us!

But, after saying that, I’d still prolly enjoy seeing Suldrun’s Garden as a movie (with good direction), and there’d be room for sequels too. Or they could make Madouc first and have "prequels" like Star Wars! I’m probably way-off on these - I haven’t read the books in a while now, but ...

(asterisks denote my choice)

Possible Directors: Steven Spielburg, **Jane Campion** ME!

Cast: (words in brackets are key aspects/qualities I relate to the character):

AILLAS (brave, strong, sombre) : *Keanu Reeves, Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp.
SULDRUN (whimsical, attractive, a bit of a loser?) : *Gwyneth Paltrow, Jodie Foster, Winona Ryder, Uma Thurman. Young Suldrun?
SHIMROD (capable, clever, mature, a little saucy?) : *Bruce Willis, Kevin Costner.
MELANCTHE (quiet, mysterious, cold, stunningly beautiful) : *Demi Moore, Lucy Lawless, Salma Hayek, Gillian Anderson.
MURGEN (powerful, quirky, mature) : *Jack Nicholson, James Earl Jones, Patrick Stewart, Samuel L Jackson - or a pastiche of all in cameos (as he changes his appearance).
CASMIR (great presence, selfish, regal, cruel, cunning) : *Sean Connery, William Hurt, Liam Neeson.
SOLLACE (selfish, cold, stupid, pompous) : *Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Bette Midler.
BROTHER UMPHRED (fawning, corpulent, lecherous, sly, pious?) : *George Wendt, Bill Murray, John Cleese, Harvey Keitel, Billy Crystal (But - alas - not John Candy!)

MADOUC : (impudent, courageous, defiant, bold, fearless, captivating) - Anna Paquin.
DHRUN : (angelic, hard-done-by, placid) - Maccaulay Culkin.
GLYNETH : (sweet, brave, pretty) - Anna Chlumsky, Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet, Juliette Lewis. Young Glyneth?
TATZEL : (caustic, confident, proud) - Uma Thurman.
TORQUAL : (desperate, dashing, competent, bloodthirsty) - Sean Penn, Nicholas Cage, Ralph Fiennes, Matt Dillon, Daniel Day-Lewis, Arnold Schwarzenegger?, Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp

I know all these ppl are famous and good-looking but I don't know any non-famous actors (I'm sure there are plenty who would be as good/better - suggestions please). Big names DO attract audiences, and most actors/actresses are reasonably attractive anyway. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore might make an interesting pairing as Shimrod and Melancthe eh?
One other thing - maybe the movie could be filmed entirely in sepia tones to add mystery! ** Donna ** (Aspiring Screenplay Writer and Director)
