: Ken, I'm with you on this one. Arnold would NOT make a Kirth Gersen--and, in fact, made a very poor Conan:
: Warner Brothers' own CLINT WALKER should've been offered THAT part. Even if the plot had to be structured in flashback. (So as to permit a younger man to play the youthful Conan. ...And yes, I do mean none other than Cheyenne Bodie. No stammering Austrian, he.) Or so I believe.
: But when Bob Justice wonders "If we were making movies from Jack's books..." he may be onto something.
: Not since I did my 5 year stint at Disney school (only to start a 25-year career in defense and aerospace) have I thought seriously of making the feature film I was trained for. Must be the Oscar hype. Or the sight of my classmate Ed Harris (who used to sit across from me in Playwriting Lab) frowning up at an antic "Roberto."
: But like as not a group of disbelieving Vance aficionados are just what the picture would need. Anybody else here have any production experience? I'm half serious!
: That the visionary landscapes, intrigues, and characters of Vance's stories have not been faithfully adapted to screen, is more than a shame; it is an obscenity. Still, the threat is real. And I shudder to think of what 95% of tinsel town's ham handed elite might do, if ever it dawned on them what commercial potential the modern Shakespeare could have. (This must be the reason Jack protects his books from the depredations of Hollywood's movers and shakers.) But had he reason to believe...?
: Therefore, I propose herewith that we work out the logistical details of preparing MOON MOTH for lens. By that I mean a successful solution to a dramatic construction that involves an entire cast improvising song to instrumental accompaniment (while behind masks). Such an achievement might well impress Jack favorably, and so enlist his approval, mayhap active cooperation.
: Am I daft? Not remotely. It could happen. Tell me I'm right!
:I stand by my choice of Arnold as Gersen. Supposedly Gersen was of Germanic descent which is why so much of The Palace of Love took place in Holland. You need a strong silent type and Arnold can do that. How about Leonard Nimoy for Cugel the Clever? Look at the old Jack Gaughan cover for the Ace paperback of Eyes of the Overworld. It even looks like Mr. Spock!
