Elizabeth, I will rave on about the Lyonesse trilogy with you until the time of the Dying Earth comes around! :) The trilogy is in the "ultra-high fantasy" class which probably leaves the Feist/Kerr/Jordan set a little cold...ignore the rantings of the "co-laterals" and "submen". The trilogy is a mind-bending experience, where Vance has used every narrative and descriptive trick in the book, enchanted with a population dire, seductive, perverse and earnest, sometimes all four at once. In my opinion, they are the yardsticks by which all fantasy is measured, with the two exceptions to this being his Eyes of the Overworld and Cugel's Saga...bah batasta to the critics!
