Back in the early eighties I sent Mr. Vance an adulatory fan letter raving mostly about Wyst:Alastor 1716. Some months later I was delighted to receive a reply. Mr. Vance noted that from my name he guessed I was of Italian ancestry and told me a little about his vacation in Europe. He mentioned that he never tires of hearing nice things about himself, and that he tries to earn his accolades by the only way he knows-hard work. I pasted my letter with clear shellac-glue into the inside front cover of the book club edition of "Suldren's Garden" (I should have used a first ed.). Anyway it made a nice souvenir, my prized possession until last year in a whim of misguided philanthropy I sold it for a token sum to a collector. Today, though, with Mr.Vance infirm, I think signing the guestbook here is probably your best bet. Dom
