: : How do!
: : A while ago somebody mentioned that Shea had a new Nifft the Lean book coming out soon. A quick search of the British booksellers Waterstones reveals the following available books :
: : 8 The Mines Of Behenoth
: : Michael Shea. Paperback.
: : Now, I've seen one of these books before, and (as you can guess by the titles) they are political thrillers (so sod all chance of a mention of the Demon Sea - unless, of course, the various politicians get what's coming to 'em in the hereafter).
: : Are these books by the same Shea? What caused to veer off into such a new direction? And what of numero 8, the Mines of Behenoth? : this sounds a bit more promising - is this his new Nifft tome?
: : Regards,
: : Mick
: Mick and all,
: The new Shea book is The Mines Of Behemoth. I've no idea if the other titles are by the same Michael Shea, but I'd like to think I would have heard about it if they were. Shea recently signed copies of Behemoth at Dark Carnival Bookstore in Berkeley, CA. They may still have signed copies available. Check out their website. I think they may have a signed copy or two of Throy as well.

There's a Baen paperback for $5.99 at Barnes and Noble now. I picked it up and read the intro by Tim Powers and the 1st couple chapters. Looks like fun, but it's sure no dying earth novel. Nifft the Lean and his strong arm buddy, Barnar are off on a rollicking, fun filled adventure that's more Fritz Leiber than Jack Vance. In fact, it's very much like Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Not the dark, romantic and dangerous place filled with mysterious beings and ominous portents we learned to love from Cugel's Saga and _TDE_. Well written and funny though it is.
