: Try Varley's 'The Ophiuchi Hotline' first , it's a great introduction to his Invader's universe - if you are a fan of hard SF you'll love it. His short story collections ' In the hall of the Martian Kings' and 'The Barbie Murders' have some great stories too , including 'Air Raid' which he expanded into a novel called 'Millennium' which was made into a half decent SF movie. There is also his trilogy 'Titan' , 'Wizard' and 'Demon' which are my personal favourites - despite the titles they are not fantasy but a great SF adventure yarn.

: Enjoy!

>"Steel Beach is also very good -- I'm a longtime fan of Varley's and would recommend ALL of his books.
