Which story was that? I've read Vinge's 'Peace War' series three times now-- as an extropolation of a scientific advance's impact on man and society, quite possibly the best ever to see print. Not a bad plot either.
: As long as yr rooting down in the V's the one you want to get is Vernor Vinge. Not Jack Vance but just good SF. Even made a movie out of one of his stories.
