: : I think that's a great idea. For me it would be a "re-reading club", but since my memory is poor it's always like the first time for me. Unfortunately, this BBS software is not conducive to heavy usage. I've been looking into using other software (such as "Push-Pin"), but they all cost money. A Jack Vance newsgroup would be ideal, but that takes a lot of time and effort.

: I would love to have the opportunity to chat more to other Vance fans. It's so nice to be able to enthuse over his work without being greeted with worried stares from unconverted friends. And I love the idea of the reading club thing. Is there any possibility of us setting up some sort of mailing list for "reading clubs" and the like? Even if it's very rudimentary ... i.e. posts are sent to some volunteer and that person then sends out the mail to a distribution list? I would really enjoy taking part in more discussions, but I find that accessing the WWW in order to post to the BBS is often a little awkward. I think that might well be a problem for many potential posters.

: Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Michaela, I'd be willing to try anything that doesn't require me to buy a service. I'm using a Govt. computer and time here and don't want to abuse the situation. I have heard of a chat form known as ICQ which sounds pretty good, but don't really know much about it and suspect that it requires a subscription which would leave me out. At any rate, why not apply metal bursting sagacity and set up something which us FNG's will humbly fall into line with. Tonight is my last night for three weeks, so I'll look in then and see what may have evolved.
