Chris ... you say it, and I'll comment on it. The only time (even with the stuff he wrote in the 40's)that I think I'm reading the worst of Jack Vance is when they forced him to disguise what he does so well. Examples are "Vandals of the Void" and the various Ellery Queen titles. Even good old Magnus Ridolph had his moments. .... the blunderin' pundit.
