Has it occured to others that there are many similarities between Vance and Burroughs, the author of Tarzan? I wonder if Burrougs could be one of Vance's influences.
The language of the two share an almost poetic beauty. Both tend to have very intricate plots. Both make use of physically, mentally and morally superior heroes. In addition, both, as far as I know, were originally published in pulps and I think Burrougs must have been on the height of his popularity about the time Vance grew up.
What other writers influenced Vance?
