: I'm just finishing up my first re-reading of the Demon Princes novels since finishing "The Book of Dreams" 15 or so years ago,
: and getting so close to the finish of this wonderful series (I'm at Howard Hardoah's School reunion) has me a little melancholy. I wish there were more. Wouldn't a prequel to the series be great, all about the hows and whys of the Pleasant Valley atrocity and the alliance of the DPs, along with the early life of Kirth, and the story of Kirth's grandfather instilling in Kirth his mission of revenge? I'll alienate a lot of you fellow Vance-philes by stating I hope Mr. Vance concentrates more on SF a la "Night Lamp" than on his fantasy in future, although don't get me wrong- I loved the Lyonesse and Dying Earth books, but Tanith Lee's Flat Earth series and Moorcocks Corum novels rival Mr. Vance's stuff where nobody even comes close to matching his SF, except maybe Cherryh's "Cyteen" trilogy and Asimov's Foundation books. Again, if I were in the hackneyed stranded on an island scenario with books by only one author, far & away it's Jack Vance. --Dom
You have alienated me! Vance´s fantasy novels are among the greatest novels I have read. The SF books are merely very good.
