Araminta Station, that could perhaps be described as a socialist system, and that is clearly a society to be admired. Glawen's wage would seem irrelevant, he works for a system he believes in and in return the system provides for him. There are no businessmen on Araminta Station, (but then Lewin Barduys is the acceptable face of capitalism).
My point is, (at last), that I think we need to look deeper than the plots to uncover Vance's philosophy.
