Clark Ashton Smith contest

I recall a discussion some time ago about Clark Ashton Smith versus Jack Vance. To my mind, there is no comparison, but I still like reading CAS' works.

OK. I have a copy of CAS' "Lost Worlds", Vol. 1 (UK Panther edition).

I propose to award it to the first person who 1. is genuinely interested in exploring C.A. Smith and 2. can identify who tipped a pot of ordure over whose head in a Vance work.

Admittedly, it's not much of a contest, but there's not much of a prize: I acquired the book over ABE from a Scottish bookseller for ~$5- including postage. It is a *reading* copy, i.e., just that--rough condition, not collectable, although all pages are intact. Heh, someone, not expecting a US sucker-purchaser, has written on the cover "18p."

In any case, let's not presume further on the hospitality of our list owner and host, Mike Berro.

Anyone interested should e-mail me off the board directly at:

drose@azstarnet.com

I will announce, unless the winner wants privacy, the lucky person on the board.

Final notes: If a contest of skill of this sort is illegal in your jurisdiction, please don't submit an entry. Also, I will pay for surface mail shipping anywhere; if the winner wants an airmail shipment, he/she will have to pay for it.

I'm no factuary-at-law or legalist, but I am:
