For what it's worth--Hayford Peirce is a friend of Jack's, at least a good enough friend to have the Vances over for dinner when we were visiting six or seven years ago. If I recall correctly, Peirce lived part of the year in Tahiti, where his wife comes from. And, of course, Jack and Norma lived there for a while in the 1950s.
As for what he has been up to lately, here's what the Contento bibliography (http://www.sff.net/locus/0start.html or linked via the Locus website) lists for stories:
Best of Breed (with David Alexander), (nv) Analog mid-Dec '94
The Boxie Rebellion, (nv) Analog Feb '97
Deep-Fried Black Diamonds, (ss) Analog Jan '95
Doing Well While Doing Good, (ss) Analog Aug '75
Imperial Stars Vol. 2, ed. Jerry Pournelle, Baen, 1987
Finder's Fee (with David Alexander), (nv) Analog Apr '97
Innocent Until Scanned Guilty, (nv) Analog Mar '95
Mail Supremacy, (ss) Analog Mar '75
Midwife, (nv) Analog Sep '94
The Ore-Ball Express, (nv) Analog Aug '96
Pandora's Scanner, (nv) Analog Jun '94
Progress, (ss) Analog mid-Dec '84
Six Million Solid Gold Belter Buckles, (nv) Analog Aug '94
To Change a Memory, (nv) Analog Mar '94
Under the Wings of Owls, (nv) Analog Jan '94
Unlimited Roquefort, (ss) Analog Nov '94
Peirce's co-author on that first story, David Alexander, is another friend of Jack's, a lawyer-writer whose name shows up in a note in one of the later books--can't recall which right now, maybe one of the Cadwal series.
