The only way I was able to get thru _The Color Out of Time_ was to have set the goal last summer to read all of Shea's 5 books and the last was _TCOoT_. Pleasantly surprised by the 2 Nifft's and the Cugel follow up as well as _In Yana the Touch of the Undying_.

Certainly _TCOoT_ has a distinct voice from the other fantasy works and quite off putting in the first few pages, but then I found either my ear grew accustomed to the stilted phrasing and odd 19th century feel (such as I get when reading Poe - precious little I've done) or else Shea had actually softened his touch and written for the modern ear. It's short, it'll soon be over.

In any event Shea is not Vance but I find that that's ok. Still well worth reading and I'll certainly pick up the new writing when it appears.
