: Of course Shea is not Vance. "Nor does he want to be" - well maybe he wants to be and maybe he doesn't. I quote (loosely) from the SF Encyclopedia - Shea - most of his few sf stories border on horror. His books, which are both witty and disquieting, include "A Quest For Simbilis" - derived, with permission, from Jack Vance's "The Eyes Of The Overworld"

Having not read the book I humbly concede the point. However...

plus "Nift The Lean" and "In Yana, the Touch of Undying" both showing Vance's influence less explicitly.

Very much less explicitly. I care not for such pontifications!

: but Shea is writing his view of the Vance uninverse.:

Again. Not in Nifft or Yana. These worlds are distinct from those of Vance. I admire both writers, but neither so much that I would credit either with having cornered the market on fantastic world-building. Others have preceeded them. Others shall succeed them. What is your basis for this? Substantiate your views, at once!
