No - I wouldn't say he writes like Jack in the context of style. I find Tubb a little less refined but the series is still a good read. The series is based on one character and his struggle to find Earth which has become a proscribed planet. The similarity I noted is about the fact both Gersen and Dumarest rely solely on themselves to attain a goal in the face of seemingly impossible odds. I think it is this philophosy that appeals to me - self-reliance and a dogged pursuit of your goals no matter what. However, this is a slightly dark side to this as well. In both characters, these single-minded goals preclude any long-term interaction with others.
