All these casting ideas for characters from Jack Vance stories makes for great reading. I often visualize Sokurah the evil sorcerer from Harryhausen's 7th Voyage of Sinbad, (played by Torin Thatcher) as Iocunou the Laughing Magician. Vance concepts would spark good films (a la Bad Ronald), but I'm afraid they would not be Vancean films at all. What could be less translatable to celluloid than the elements, emotions, and interplays we cherish on the pages of his books? There's only one place we'll find those vicarious experiences, and we'll go back to the books over and over again.
