: : There are two possible interpretations:
: : 1. My work is too fine to attract general appreciation;
: : 2. I am mistaken in my assessment of its merits.
: : Sadly the latter is the more plausible hypothesis.
I know the feeling and perhaps others on the list do also. I have a 150,000 word novel sitting on the shelf. Not to mention two westerns. The publishers these days prefer to work with agents, so the unpublished writer needs to spend a lot of time trying to find someone who will 1) read said writer's manuscript without...WITHOUT...a fee and 2) be willing to become the agent for said work. This is sometimes more difficult than writing the novel in the first place. Tim, all I can say is persevere. Keep writing and keep hunting for someone to represent you.
