: On my shelves I have Jack Vance translations in 11 languages, not counting English. So, I wondered how many languages into which his works had been translated?
: There are at least: 1) Dutch (his greatest European fans) 2) Italian, 3) French, 4) Spanish, 5) Portuguese, 6) German, 7) Swedish, 8) Czech, 9) Russian, 10) Japanese, and 11) Hebrew.
: A subsidiary question is what the most popular foreign work(s) would be. For extra credit, into how many languages have the non-sf/fantasy works been translated?
A good starting point would be Remy Wetzel's excellent site
vance.hw.nl
which contains an excellent bibliography although it has not been updated for Ports of Call.
As to which translations are most popular, Vance certainly has a big following in the Netherlands and I would guess that the Dutch lead the way. One or both of Night Lamp and Ports of Call was published in the Netherlands before the UK!
