Shame on me for neglecting to mention Matt Hughes' FOOLS ERRANT, a fantasy novel, in my opinion, more Vancian than Michael Shea's A QUEST FOR SIMBILIS. It is now out of print (only published in Canada), but I will soon have a bunch of the trade paperback editions available for purchase. Only 750 copies of the hardcover were issued, so grab them if you find any.
