I wonder how many readers new the the genre actually come across Vance these days. Unless you scour the second-hand bookshops or buy from a specialist dealer you are unlikely to see a Vance book in the UK. I went into Waterstones (large bookshop chain) last week for a browse, and there was not a single Vance on the shelves. I've just checked, and out of my 60 or so Vance books, 22 have been bought from mainstream bookshops over the last 15 years. This would seem to imply Vance is out of favour with someone, yet he does seem to have a large following. Just as an example of this, I tried to set up a free account with an ISP in the UK, and a lot of domain names like "Cadwal" were already taken.
