Philip, while I agree that Vance avoids graphic discussions of sex acts, he definately uses sex frequently in his stories:
~ At various points in the Tschai series - particularly a key element in _The Pnume_.
~ In the Lyonesse trilogy. Who can forget the conception of Madouc?
~ Throughout and often in the Alastor "Wyst" novel.
In fact, it seems to me that Vance likes to use sexual attraction, tension, and/or deviation as a vehicle in many of his books.
More that come to mind... Araminta Station, Night Lamp, Strange Notions, Take My Face, Cugel's Saga, To Live Forever, etc., etc.

: Well, not really, but I was a bit surprised to see the use of the word "arse" in a Jack Vance novel. I can't recall him using even mild swear words in any other book as he tends to use rather more ornate descriptions, and like Asimov, never ventures into the bedroom with his characters. Anyone care to comment, or correct me?
