In Reply to: "Cut" and "Restored" versions of 2 JV novels ??? posted by Bob von Tiehl on November 09, 1998 at 21:19:08:
: The bibliography on Remy Wetzel's page states that "Big Planet" and "Slaves of the Klau" were issued in "cut" editions and (at least in the case of "Big Planet") were issued in "restored" versions. But it's not clear to me which editions have the full text. Can any of you knowledgeable Vancephiles identify them?
: I'm not fortunate enough to have a Hewett & Mallett, so I can't consult it to see if answers to my questions lie within.

Big planet was first published as magazin version (there was nothing else then) in 1952 startling stories.
the UK edition from Gollanz [1989] states;
'an abridged version of this novel was published in 1957 by Avalon books and subsequently reprinted. This is the first unabridged version in book form.'
Ofcourse this is inaccurate as in 1978 Underwood miller (UM) published with a note;
" this printing restores the full magazine text which orignally appeared in erc'
Gollanz should have added ' in the UK'
unfortunately many British people still think of Britain as an Island representing the cultural center of civilization ;-)
apparently the ace editions are abridged editions as well, Tor-edition ? no idea .
Slaves of the klau;
same her :UM in 1982 follows the magazine version from 1952 (Space Stories)
Ace seem to give an abridged version.
As all I know comes from Jerry Hewett's book there might be more knowledgable people (I am sure)
who can tell you if the Tor editions are unabridged or not.
btw: great book and still available for purchase.
Good luck
