: You may be able to find a copy of _The Augmented Agent_ collection at a cheaper price; it includes Sjambak. Speaking of which, I remember Vance's rueful comment in one of these anthologies of harder-to-find stories about how they were getting around to collecting "The Worst of Jack Vance." :)

: Thanks for the info. concerning SJAMBAK; as a matter of fact the smaller format magazines such as Worlds of If, Fantastic, Galaxy, and later issues of Amazing aren't too expensive in the shop I buy the "vintage" stuff in! Thrilling Wonder and Startling etc are another story.
My cousin has a copy of The Augmented Agent and other stories ( which is the only one I've ever seen!) so I think I'll borrow his!
As for Vance being less than enthusiastic about the obscure stories of his being collected in paperback form, I remember reading his introduction to The Dark Side of the Moon in which there were a number of stories he said he had gladly forgotten!
When one considers the greatness of what was to follow it is understandable; but apart from the odd one or two very early stories I am pleased to have discovered his less easily found work.
