For what it's worth my first websearch some four years ago was for Jack Vance; my second was for the band "Gentle Giant." Both searches were successful, and left me with a warm feeling for the net. Some of these sites have remained consistently at the top of my bookmarks. It's always fun to check Mike's Guestbook and see new comments like, "Jack's been a pivotal influence in my life since...." and "...thought I was the only Vance fan around" and "Please tell me more about this extraordinary author!" Jack has a tremendous fan base around the world and it's too bad he pretty much ignores the internet, but as regards this he probably feels something like, "Bah, it just doesn't interest me, and besides my eyes are so crummy...." This is understandable. He has a nice life in the hills with his family and is involved with sailing and jazz. Sounds idyllic, and he gets the pleasure of making story-jazz to boot.
