Speaking of politics in terms of Vance's works, I thought The Cadwal Chronicles series came across as the most politically oriented. I enjoyed the way the characters discussed political issues in the typical Vancian drawing room style we all love. Perhaps I should reread those books soon: it would certainly be a refreshing change from the um, "discourse" in the current newspapers.
In fact, for those who are disappointed by the "plotlessness" of POC, I'd recommend Aramainta Station, which has several plots going at once- political intrigue, coming of age, murder mystery, etc.
