Funny thing is that THE BLUE WORLD, which is Vance's "hardest"
sf novel, also got a poor review from "Analog" (Mar. 1968).
Said review includes this "hard sf" headscratcher/blooper:
"Here, in some twelve generations, the survivors of the wreck
have evolved a fully adapted parasitic or symbiotic marine
culture without stone or metals--though somehow with fire."
Hmmm, right . . . need stone or metals to make fire. Two
sticks? No chance. Anyway, I found this tidbit while working on
my new Vance essay on THE BLUE WORLD.
