: : I ran across an inscribed later printing of The Dying Earth on ebay; the inscription says "Thanks for the great ideas. Jack Vance". It got me to thinking that I rarely see an inscription from him, he usually just signs. Is that not true?
: I have 11 signed books and so far it's always just "Jack Vance".
: Have one signed on two different pages but suspect it's a fake.

: John

I have one signed on two different pages because the pen with which he signed the first page ran out of ink. And...the second signature was also inscribed, "To Robert!"...he seems quite amicable about autographs. I haven't seen it posted, so it may not be old news, but Jack has become a grandfather this year. John and his wife and child have also moved in with Jack and Norma, remodeling the basement into an apartment (so I'm told by a friend that's a guest in Jack's house occasionally).
