: Hey, great to see some discussion on this topic. I have read all the Hornblower books and 11 of the 17 O'Brian novels, I have also read two Dewey Lambdin books. I like Hornblower well enough but I think O'Brian is by far the best with Lambdin in second place. Another writer that is as good as C.S. Forrester is Alexander Kent his Capt Bolitho is a good equal to Jack Aubrey. Alos Kent wrote I think a bakers dozen of Bolitho tales. Lastly there is "FOX" by a guy named Hardy, they are ok and a little light. The books are small (200 pages or so) but a good read. Who is Vance???? and How can I get his books.
